Are Your Hormones Keeping You From Losing Weight and Living Your Best Life?

Hormone Testing for Weight Loss and Other Health Issues

Hormone Testing for Weight Loss and Other Health Issues

So, most of you know I’ve been on a mission to fix my “mysterious” health issues for years now. This year, I’ve really switched into high gear by adopting a paleo diet, and working with integrative doctors and health practitioners that are interesting in healing, rather than pushing pharmaceuticals (been there, done that, got the t-shirt…).

Does Western medicine have all the answers?

Western medicine is all about fixing you when you’re completely broken, while integrative or functional medicine is about healing you before you get to the broken place. I don’t want to sound like I’m anti-Western medicine. My sister is a doctor, and she helps SO many people. I take medications that have saved my life. Look – if I have a broken bone or an aneurysm in my brain, I am not going to an acupuncturist or herbalist – I’m going straight to Cedars Sinai to get help! read more

A natural yellow chemical compound you can find in any grocery store could help fight cancer, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s

turmeric in food, curryShutterstock

Turmeric, and the chemical compound derived from it, called curcumin, have some amazing health benefits.
In addition to being a proven anti-inflammatory that helps boost circulation, turmeric may also be an anti-cancer, antioxidant therapy that can fight off brain plaques, possibly helping prevent diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and more.
Unlike a lot of other vitamins and supplements, it’s cheap.

Doctors are increasingly embracing the idea that the food we eat may be as good as any disease-fighting, immunity-boosting drug. read more

Keto Tomato Sauce Recipe

Tomato sauce plays such an essential role in the kitchen. Not only is it one of the five mother sauces of French cuisine, due to the many derivatives that stem from it. But, what would Italian cuisine be without tomato sauce?

Unfortunately, tomato sauce can have a surprising amount of sugar in it, which does not make it work for a keto diet. It makes it nearly impossible to find a recipe or premade tomato sauce. That is a massive shame because of all the wonderful dishes that come from the valuable sauce. read more

Simple & Fast Salmon Patties (GAPS, SCD, Keto, Gluten Free)

Simple & Fast Salmon Patties (GAPS, SCD, Keto, Gluten Free)

This meal is fast- a whole foods equivalent of boxed macaroni and cheese.  One bowl to mix, a pan to fry, and you’re ready to eat!  This is one of my favorite fast meals, and my son Sam absolutely LOVED it as a toddler, since his name (‘SAMon’ haha) was in it. The kids still get a kick out of this story.

Salmon Patties with Green Peas   Print Prep time 15 mins Cook time 10 mins Total time 25 mins   Rich in omega 3s, and as fast to make as boxed mac n cheese, this nutrient dense meal is a staple in our house and I bet will be soon in your house as well! Author: Cara Comini Recipe type: Main Dish Cuisine: Keto, GAPS, SCD, Gluten Free, Dairy Free Serves: 4 Ingredients Three 5-ounce cans of wild caught salmon (find here) 2 eggs ¼ cup shredded coconut (optional, omit one egg if not using; can also use almond meal or even almond flour) (find here) 2-3 tablespoons ghee or coconut oil for frying Directions Open and drain salmon by pressing cut lid on top of the salmon firmly while turning upside down over the sink. Place salmon, eggs, and shredded coconut in a bowl and mix with a fork until egg is throughly distributed. This does not need to be a puree, but should be uniform. Allow salmon mixture to rest (this helps the coconut to hold the mixture together) while you heat a large skillet or griddle (flat side) over medium heat. Once skillet is pre-heated, add 1 tablespoon of fat and allow to melt. As the fat melts, form small patties out of the salmon, ‘slider’ size, or mini-burger size. Once the edges start to look firm, and the top of the uncooked patty is also starting to loose its shine a little bit, – about 5 minutes of cooking- use a thin metal spatula to carefully flip. The side that is cooked should be starting to brown. Cook for another 3 minutes on the other side and then serve.
